Baby Shower Diaper Cakes and Cake

Robert and Kelly Lau are expecting a twin - a girl and a boy. The perfect pair! To make the celebration fun, a baby carriage diaper cake is for the baby girl and a tricycle diaper cake is for the baby boy.

For the guest, a slice of moist and delicious mocha sponge cake filled with Italian meringue butter cream. The fondant was airbrushed with warm brown food coloring.

Inside the baby carriage diaper cake for baby girl are more diapers, receiving blankets, onesies, pacifiers, baby bottles, blanket, nipples, and toys (see basket on right for twin baby boy - exactly the same, but different colors).

Here are more closer picture of the each diaper cake.

And, here's a closer look of the cake for the guests.

Upon assembly, both couples were so happy with the result of the diaper cakes and were also pleased with the edible cake toppers.

Abby Cadabby Fun Cake (My First Halal Cake)

Making this cake at 31 weeks pregnant wasn’t easy. I was standing for an extended period of time with a huge canon ball around my belly that always gets in the way. Since cake decorating is my hobby and my passion, I can’t complain. I was having a great time decorating this cake for a beautiful 2-year little girl named Hifza. I am so proud of my work how it turned out. Abby Cadabby is just so adorable character!

The bottom tier cake was a vanilla sponge cake filled with Italian meringue vanilla-flavored buttercream with layers of crushed pineapples. The top tier was a chocolate cake with Italian meringue hazelnut-flavored buttercream.

To make a cake with Halal ingredients was a challenge. Some special ingredients requires researching if it is vegetable or animal derived ingredients. The ingredients I used for this cake have to be purchased in certain locations. And I am so pleased and happy that I was able to produce my very first Halal birthday fun cake! I really love how the cake turned out to be. There’s so much going on that it doesn’t look busy, yet it really look a child’s cake.

Hifza’s mom’s (Sofia) Remarks:

Thank you so much! It was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!!! You are extremely. talented!!!!

Summer Wedding

My husband's cousin (Cindy) e-mailed me asking if I can make an authentic Filipino cake - ube cake. Ube cake is a purple sweet yam cake, which is one of Filipino's favorite delicacy. In my experience, ube cake is very challenging to make as it requires mashed, or finely grated purple yam that tends to absorb the liquid in the batter and could result in a dry cake.

For this gorgeous wedding cake, the cake is a sponge “ube” cake filled with Filipino buttercream and layers of macapuno. Macapuno is a young coconut preserve.

The cake is adorned with marshmallow-butter-flavored fondant. The flowers are chrysanthemum orchids, airbrushed and dusted with edible, African violet petal dust.

The challenge for this cake it to maintain it’s shape due to the extreme heat wave of the summer. The temperature outside the wedding venue was 110 deg F and the weather inside the building was 70 deg F (not accounting the body heat from at least 150 guests). My concern was the “will the buttercream melt and ruined the shape of the cake?” Overall, the cake was moist and tasted authentically Filipino. The bride, groom, and guests were very pleased with the taste and right balance of the sweetness.

No wasted cake and no leftovers to bring home!

Remarks from Cindy:

Thanks Ev! the cake was a success! Chrissie Seto and Alan Perez and their guests really enjoyed the cake!

Darth Yoda

Serena had her 30th "Mets" birthday cake from Jean. This time Serena placed a Darth Yoda cake for Joyce who was turning 30.
Yoda, the cake topper, took over 8 hours to make, starting from scultping the rice crispies to covering it with modeling chocolate. The slowly scultped his face to give it a grumpy old man look like how he is in most movies. I was glad that the number of the cake topper characters was reduced from three (3) Star Wars characters (Darth Vader, Yoda, and Luke Skywalker) to just Yoda. Otherwise, I'll be jumping hoops trying to find time finishing up three characters in as short as one week.
I had my first sculpted Yoda trashed due to air brush malfunctions. Glad that after 4 days working in phases with Yoda, I was able to pull it through. Here he is..... To add humor, he's using Darth Vader's stolen/acquired red saber...
Yoda was made of rice crispies and covered with modeling chocolate. His robe was made of fondant airbrushed with brown food coloring to give it a nice old, dirty look.
Cake was a chocolate cake filled with Italian chocolate-mocha buttercream.
I am happy that Serena "Loveeeee it" [cake].

Hermes Purse Cake

Surprisingly, this cake was Katrina's 3rd order. Her previous orders were the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag cake and the Laker's basketball cake. I glad that she was very pleased and happy with her orders that she decided to place another order.

I would humbly say that this was one of my best purse cake creation. I liked the crocodile texture. It brings a character to the purse cake.

Her aunt Nelia loves purses, so we agreed to make her Hermes cake replica. She also loves the purple color, so we decided to make an ube (purple yam) cake with buttercream frosting and macapuno (young coconut preserves). I made her extra cake accessories that she did not expect at all. I made it extra special since she had ordered previously. I made her edible LV face foundation, LV lipsticks, Movado watch, pearl necklace and bracelet, and Hermes price tag.
